Item description

Vintage Hand carved Adinkra Symbols Decorative Wall Frame from Ghana. This is a Ghanaian decorative artistic wall hanging for your home, office or mancave. It has six (6) beautifully crafted Adinkra art engraved in the center and the edges of the frame is covered with vibrant colors of Kente cloth. Adinkra are visual symbols, originally created by the Asante people of Ghana that represent concepts or aphorisms. They are extensively used in fabrics and pottery and also incorporated into walls and other architectural features. Adinkra symbols do not only have a decorative function but also represent objects that express evocative messages that convey traditional wisdom, aspects of life or the environment. The names of the symbols together with their meanings are beautifully inscribed at the back of the frame. There is also a string loop hanger at the back of the frame for easy wall mounting. Dimensions: 25.7? H x 7? L x 0.7? W *** Customers can request for customization. Kindly send me a message with names or photos of your preferred adinkra symbols and we will make it for you. ***The symbols with their meanings in order are listed below: 1. AKOMA ? The Heart? Symbol of patience and tolerance 2. NKYINKYIM ?Twisting? Symbol of initiative, dynamism and versatility 3. NSOROMMA ?Child of the heavens [stars] ? Symbolizes the guardianship of God. A remainder that God is the father and watches over all people. 4. MMUSUYIDEE ?That which removes bad luck? Symbol of good fortune and sanctity? 5. GYE NYAME ? Except for God? Symbol of the supremacy of God. This unique and beautiful symbol is ubiquitous in Ghana. It is by far the most popular for uses in decoration, a reflection on the deeply religious character of the Ghanaian people. 6. BESE SAKA "Sack of Cola nuts" Symbol of affluence, power, abundance, plenty, togetherness and unity. Cola nut is a widely used cash crop in Ghana and it is closely associated with affluence and abundance. This symbol also represents the role of agriculture and trade in bringing people together.
