Item description

Vintage Jacques Lipchitz Dove Peace Judaica Brooch Pin Pendant Israel Hebrew Israeli Jewish American Modernist Artist Abstract Brutalist Style Pair of Birds Sculptural Figural Jewelry Rough Textured Surface Bright Goldtone Gold Tone Metal Religion Religious This gold toned metal brooch was designed by Jacques Lipchitz (1891-1973), a renowned cubist sculptor and artist, whose work can be found in museums throughout the world. He was born in Lithuania and moved to Paris in 1909 to study Art. When the German troops moved into France during WWII, he fled the country to the United States and came to New York. In his later years he became more involved in his Jewish faith and created jewelry for Israel. You can read his full biography on Wikipedia if you would like more information about the artist. This chunky open work brooch/pendant features two doves facing each other with a faux turquoise stone set between their heads. The birds are perched above the word “Shalom” or Peace, in Hebrew script. Above the birds at the top of the brooch is a pair of hands reaching up to the heavens. It is signed on the reverse “J. Lipchitz” in script. It measures approximately 2 inches tall and 2 inches wide. This brooch/pendant is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It has a fine working safety rollover clasp and an attached bail so it can be worn as a pendant. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe. This eye-catching piece of jewelry would be perfect to wear as a brooch/pendant or it could be used as part of a shadow box and framed for the wall. It is a lovely piece of wearable art. Great for anyone who collects Judaica and peace related jewelry.
