Item description

Antique Real Photo Postcard. Caption reads, "Wreck of the Wilson, Burned June 23, 1907." Photo by F.P. Yarnall who was a known photographer in New Jersey. The side of the boat appears to read, "WMV Wilson" (Wooden Motor Vessel?) We suspect this is a rare card, given that the caption and photographer's name are stamped on the front rather than printed. Divided back, postmarked 1907 from Red Bank, New Jersey. Condition: This is an original photo postcard, not a copy or reproduction. It has postal ink on front, and a couple of crimps. Comments: We were not able to find any information on this shipwreck, but it appears from the photo to be a paddlewheeler. The Wilson Lines was a steamboat company which operated paddlewheel boats that was popular for traveling between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wilmington, Delaware and Riverview Beach, New Jersey. Meanwhile, we were able to discover that the photographer, F.P. Yarnall, also operated in Monmouth Co., NJ and found a specific instance in Belford.
