Item description
This is a small, vintage, round, amber brown Apothecary Jar embossed on the bottom, "P.D. Co." with the number "87". P.D. Co. stands for the Parke Davis Pharmaceutical company and the number, a mold number. The mark indicates a date from around 1875 up to 1920. The bottle, is wide mouthed, with a squat design leading me to believe it was likely intended for medicinal ointments. It doesn't have a threaded top, so it is pre-screw top and utilized a cork or cap. I have not been able to find a similar bottle for comparision so I suspect it is a rare bottle. My father, an avid bottle digger, found the bottle more than 40 years ago in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia. The old medicine bottle is in great condition with the exception of a chip on the lip. (See photos) The glass was unevenly poured, and has a thick lip on one side. Color and clarity are very nice for a dug bottle. The antique drug store bottle measures about 2.75" x 2".
