Item description
MOUSE MELON aka Mexican sour gherkin, Cucamelon, Sandita. Miniature ( 2" ) oval melons look like tiny watermelons and are surprisingly crunchy, with a refreshing tart taste that's somewhere between cucumber and fava beans. Great for pickles, stir fries, fresh salads or raw with a dip. These little melons grow on a climbing vine that are ideal for growing on a fence, trellis in containers or the garden. Mouse Melons are virtually carefree, grow fast, have good disease resistance, extremely high yields and are extremely easy-to-grow. About 60 days for first melons. 20+ seeds per order.
Melothria scabra.
Warm season melon.
Full sun.
Soil temp 70F+.
SOW - 2 seeds per, 1/2" deep, about 12" apart. Keep moist.
Germination - 5 to 10 days.
Thin to single best seedling. Use scissors to cut out unwanted sprouts.
Medium water.
These need something to climb. Trellis, fence, twine, tomato cage at least 4 ft tall.
Light organic fertilizer if needed.
Height 6-8 ft x 12" wide.
First melons in about 60 days. These will produce until early fall.
