Esta medalla historicamente evocadora conmemora la campaña imperial en el Caucaso de 1837, emitida bajo el reinado del emperador Nicolas I. El anverso muestra un busto orientado a la derecha finamente detallado del zar Nicolas I, rodeado por una inscripcion en eslavo eclesiastico antiguo: ?.?. ??????? I ???. ???????.", que significa "Por la gracia de Dios, Nicolas I, emperador de toda Rusia". La artesanía ejemplifica las tendencias neoclasicas de la epoca, enfatizando la autoridad y la legitimidad divina a traves del retrato imperial. El reverso presenta la inscripcion ???????? ? 1837 ????? (Caucaso, año 1837), junto a una estrella y una espada o baston horizontal estilizado, que simboliza la accion militar y el poder imperial. Este tipo de medalla fue creada para honrar el servicio de oficiales y soldados involucrados en la supresion de levantamientos y la expansion del control en la volatil region del Caucaso. Si bien esta pieza es una restriccion moderna, sigue siendo un artículo de coleccionista convincente que representa un capítulo complejo y consecuente en la historia militar zarista.
