Esta pieza bellamente detallada es una restriccion moderna de un tetradracma griego clasico, que captura uno de los temas mas dinamicos de la numismatica antigua. El reverso muestra una cuadriga (carro de cuatro caballos) conducida por un auriga con túnicas que fluyen, un motivo historicamente asociado con Siracusa y otras ciudades-estado sicilianas durante los siglos V-IV aC. La composicion, llena de movimiento y finos detalles anatomicos en los caballos, ejemplifica los altos estandares artísticos de las monedas helenísticas. Sobre el carro esta la representacion de Nike o un estandar, que simboliza la victoria divina y los triunfos atleticos en los juegos panhelenicos. En el anverso, encontramos un llamativo retrato femenino, probablemente inspirado en la diosa Aretusa o Persefone, cuya presencia adornaba con frecuencia monedas de Siracusa. Su cabello finamente peinado y collar de cuentas indican tanto el estado como la belleza divina. Tales retratos eran a menudo representaciones idealizadas que mezclaban elegancia mortal con simbolismo divino. Las monedas que llevan estas imagenes jugaron un papel importante no solo en el comercio sino tambien en la proyeccion de poder político e identidad cultural.
